Dealing With Lost Car Keys

Don’t let the stress of lost car keys get you down. As the head of our professional locksmith company explains, you only need to do the following steps to remain calm so the incident with your lost car keys will have a good ending.

What should you do when you lose your car keys?

If your car keys have been lost or stolen, you need not panic. Here is what you should do instead.

Take control of the situation

The main reason people lose small items like vehicle keys is that they get so caught up in the stress of their daily activities that they no longer feel in control. You have to take control of the situation and this requires mental calm. First, you have to take a deep breath and calm down. Thankfully, it is easy to gain a sense of calm just through controlled and deliberate deep breathing.

Traceback your daily route

Next, after you have calmed down a bit, try to backtrack and figure out where you might have left your vehicle keys. Try to retrace your steps. Figure out your daily routine. Did you break your routine? What did you do differently? Ask the staff at each restaurant, coffee shop, or store you stopped at if they came across your keys.

Call a Locksmith with vehicle information

Keep your locksmith on call. If you have your mobile phone handy, contact a local automotive locksmith to help you get a set of replacement car keys. A competent and professional local locksmith will require proof of ownership and identity first before helping you with a spare car key. Your license information should match the registration papers that should be kept in your car at all times.

What newer options are available in the market to unlock cars?

There are other options for unlocking car doors. For example, Jaguar has unleashed a waterproof, shockproof wristband that will help people unlock their cars. Oddly, the wristband does not serve as a key in its own right.

Instead, the idea is you will hide your car key fob in a special compartment at the back of the Jaguar, touch the bracelet to the compartment, and open it to retrieve the key. Then you’ll hit the button on the key fob to open your car.

What could go wrong?

When this thing works well, it’s going to be awesome for surfers, swimmers, runners, and other active people. However, when it doesn’t work you’ve a situation where you’re going to need an automotive re-key. There won’t be any other way to get the panel in the back of that car open.

The bracelet could malfunction. Transponder technology malfunctions all the time. It seems like a lot of extra steps, too. If you’re going to rely on transponder technology, why not just go all the way and turn the bracelet itself into a car key?

If you’re one of them you might love this idea, and we’re not saying you shouldn’t enjoy the technology. Nine times out of ten, it’s going to work out just fine.

But when something does go wrong you need to know who to call. After all, your car is just a fancy piece of metal if you can’t get inside and drive it.

Fortunately, we are an expert at replacing transponder keys, smart keys, and more. We’ll be able to get you back in your vehicle, even if your high-tech bracelet can’t!

How do locksmiths bypass electronic car locks?

Many people have ditched traditional or basic car keys and own cars with electronic car locks and advanced smart key fobs. With electronic car locks, there is no need for a basic car key because the doors can either be opened or locked by clicking a switch. If that switch is lost or misplaced, there is a need for bypassing the electronic locks to allow the owner access to the car.

Bypassing electronic car locks is a matter of hacking the car’s coding system and changing the code to allow the car to open. Immediately after the previous code has been hacked, a new code should be generated which comes with a new key switch. Once the process is completed, the owner can now enjoy driving their car around without any compromise in security or any damages.
